WINNER OF THE 2016 NY INTERNATIONAL FRINGE AWARD FOR OVERAL EXCELLENCE FOR A MUSICAL
MOTHER EMANUEL
Mother Emanuel played it's World Premiere at the 2016 New York International Fringe Festival and played at the SoHo Playhouse. It was awarded Overall Excellence for a Musical and was selected for the 2016 Fringe Encore Series.
About the Play:
Mother Emanuel presents an interpretation of the events that transpired at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church on June 17, 2015. On that evening at around 8pm, a young white male entered the Bible Study which was occurring at the time and sat there until around 9:05pm when at that time, he shot nine members of the Bible Study group.
The play is an interpretation of their Bible Study and an homage to a specific religious experience. In the story telling, the piece travels through the past and present lives of these nine men and women
